It is important to understand
that Sciatica is not a disease but rather
a collection of problems and symptoms that can differ from person to person depending
on the cause.
Sciatica is the pain and discomfort caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve.
The sciatic nerve runs from the lower back and pelvis, through the hip and
buttock area, down to the back of each leg, and controls many of the muscles in
these areas.
When one of the nerve roots is
irritated or compressed, the result is pain felt in the lower back,
buttock region and/or parts of the leg and foot. This pain can be
an occasional discomfort to a continuous, excruciating pain accompanied by
sensations of numbness or weakness in the legs.
There are many natural aids
for Sciatica. Here are some you may wish to try:
Use the juice of Potato and Celery
with water as a drinkable tea in 1:1 ratio. The taste is undoubtedly nasty but
you will need to drink about 10 ounces every day in order to benefit from this.
You may be able to think of ways to improve the taste by adding other ingredients.
Some companies market a Celery Tea and also an Elderberry Tea. Both Celery and
Elderberry are renowned for relaxing muscles which may help with any pain.
Another way to help with the
pain is to apply a poultice of freshly minced horseradish. You will need to
keep the poultice on the painful area for at least an hour.
Use a cold pack on the
painful area for approximately 15-20 minutes which should also help reduce
inflammation and provide mild pain relief. Repeat this throughout the day
