Exhaustion is a key feature of this remedy (compare also Carb an and Carb v).
Whenever illness occurs that has caused bodily fluids to be discharged with resulting weakness you should think of China. Thus, extreme weakness following diarrhoea, vomiting, and perspiration may indicate this remedy. The exhaustion following loss of body fluid is what helps distinguish this remedy.
Should your patient be ‘worn out’ from illness, chilly, worse from any movement, with cold sweat and sensitive to draughts of air – then you can think of China.
In fact this remedy deserves a special place in our homeopathic remedies as it was the very first remedy used by the modern founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann. The extract of this tree is Quinine used to treat Malaria.
If you think of the classic picture of malaria sufferers….the shivering, chilly patient unable to move with cold sweat on their brow…..and you have a picture of China the homeopathic remedy (although it doesn’t have to be quite that severe to use it!!)
