In acute illness you may still observe the tell tales signs that someone needs this remedy.
Looks for crack or fissures anywhere on their body, but especially behind the ears, on the hands and around the mouth. If their skin weeps with a honey-like discharge then you can be quite confident you have someone who may be predisposed to needing this remedy.
Although it is found that Graphites most often helps those whose metabolism is slow, and who are therefore overweight, this is not always the case and you should not use this as a basis for making your decision.
