Rheum is used specifically in acute homeopathy. It is a good remedy for Diarrhoea in small children caused by teething troubles.

Its signature is Sourness which should always be present if you are to prescribe this remedy. The sourness can be smelt on the child, especially the perspiration.

It is important to compare Rheum with Mag mur and Nat phos both of which also have sourness as a key feature. Nat phos sufferers do not usually have teething troubles whereas Mag mur suffers may well have this. Usually if you have diarrhoea with teething check to see if there are confirmatory symptoms of Mag mur. If not consider Rheum strongly.
